The Centre of Advanced Study in History (CAS) programme in the Department of History, Aligarh Muslim University, was initiated in 1968, with Medieval Indian History identified as its basic thrust area. This was partly due to the UGC,s recognition of the work already done in the field at Aligarh, and partly to its apprecia
-tion of the importance of research in Medieval Indian History for a balanced progress of historical work in India as a whole. Over the years, we have introduced undergraduates to the excitement and significance of historical studies and have trained generations of post graduate students who have gone on to teach and research in colleges, universities, museums, and libraries. Our faculty’s research has taken them around the world.
