This book has been translated into eleven Indian languages under the auspices of the Indian Council of Historical Research, New Delhi.
3. The Apparatus of Empire: Awards of Ranks, Offices and Titles to the Mughal Nobility, 1574‑1658, Oxford, 1985. The author received the Barpujari award from the Indian History Congress on this work being judged the best published work on Indian History in 1985 and 1986.
